Press Release – Witten, 6 April 2009 - Energy saving mats for floor heating system – thermally conductive substructures achieve the best values

Classic floor heating systems, among the favorites for energy efficient surface heating systems, are being used more and more with laminate and parquet flooring.

However, a decisive factor for their energy balance is the subflooring material, as has now been established in a report investigating 15 subflooring materials available in the market. "Are there significant differences between commercial subflooring materials which influence the economy, ecology and comfort of a floor heating system?"

This was investigated by the test performed by a publicly authorized and sworn expert for plumbing and heating construction.

In a comparative series of test, it was shown that the common subflooring materials on the market showed great differences in terms of their energy savings. Decisive here was particularly their thermal conductivity. It was shown that a floor heating system can save a relevant quantity of energy by using subflooring material with particularly high thermal conductivity, allowing the room to heat up more quickly.

This study was sponsored by Pelzer Acoustic Products (PAP) in Witten, producer of Pelzer acoustic foil, a mineral-filled polymer foil used for reduction of ambient and footfall noise in the form of subflooring material for parquet and laminate flooring.
